The Critical, Often Overlooked Role of ICE in Combating Human Trafficking and Protecting Children

“Woe to those who scheme to harm others, especially children, and take away their innocence.” – Micah 2:1

For informational and educational purposes only.

A widespread misconception frames U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) narrowly as an immigration enforcement agency. In reality, ICE—particularly its Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) directorate—operates as a premier federal law enforcement agency dedicated to combating transnational crimes, with a significant focus on human trafficking and child sexual exploitation. This work has rescued numerous children and disrupted exploitative networks. Calls to defund or eliminate ICE risk undermining these life-saving efforts. I am writing this to show that I am giving the benefit of the doubt to most people. I think they simply do not understand the situation. They have been lied to and misled, manipulated. If you read this, you can't use that excuse anymore.

I want to ask this question right off the bat so it is on your mind as you read further: Do you truly believe that protecting illegal immigrants (complete strangers) from lawful deportation is more important than rescuing children from human sex traffickers? If you eliminate ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) for that reason, you also eliminate their ability to rescue these children and shut down the trafficking rings that exploit them.

That's the trade-off of eliminating ICE. Illegal aliens over the safety and welfare of children around the globe.

Do you really think this is a fair trade-off? I can guarantee that those children or their families do not think so. I ask in all seriousness.

How can anyone prioritize the safety and welfare of illegal immigrants—who are not supposed to be here—over the safety and well-being of children around the globe? Remember, ICE (specifically its Homeland Security Investigations division) operates globally, not just in the United States. They rescue children from sex traffickers wherever they have to go to find them.

Look at the statistics I’ve provided, and then ask yourself who is more important. In my mind, nothing and no one should take precedence over protecting the most vulnerable in our society—our children!

ICE’s Broader Law Enforcement Mandate

While Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) addresses interior immigration enforcement, HSI investigates, disrupts, and dismantles criminal organizations exploiting U.S. customs, immigration, travel, trade, and financial systems. Its portfolio includes human smuggling and trafficking, child exploitation, narcotics smuggling, money laundering, intellectual property theft, cybercrime, and more. HSI leads the DHS Center for Countering Human Trafficking (CCHT), participates in over 120 counter-trafficking task forces, and maintains an extensive international presence.

HSI employs a victim-centered approach, placing equal emphasis on identifying and stabilizing victims while investigating and prosecuting traffickers. This includes asset seizures to eliminate profit incentives and partnerships with nongovernmental organizations for survivor support.

Combating Human Trafficking and Rescuing Children

Human traffickers prey on vulnerable individuals—those seeking better lives, facing unstable homes, or caught in migration flows—using force, fraud, coercion, and manipulation. Children are especially at risk for sex trafficking and forced labor.

Recent results demonstrate ongoing impact:

  • In FY 2024, HSI assisted 818 human trafficking victims and identified and/or assisted 1,783 victims of child exploitation.

  • In August 2025, ICE dismantled a violent trafficking ring in Nebraska, rescuing 27 victims, including 10 children under the age of 12, from horrific conditions.

  • Operation Renewed Hope III and follow-ups (2025–2026) have contributed to the identification of over 450 child victims of online sexual exploitation worldwide.

  • HSI has conducted over 71,000 field engagements focused on locating missing children, verifying sponsor safety, and dismantling child trafficking operations, including efforts that located over 10,300 previously unaccounted-for children by mid-2025.

And here is the real kick in the teeth. A lot of these sex trafficking and child exploitation rings are being run by those illegal aliens you seem to have such a fondness for. So not only are you failing to protect children from exploitation, you are protecting some of the same people who are exploiting those children. How does that make you feel?

These rescues often involve minors exploited through smuggling networks. By providing access to services and legal protections (such as Continued Presence for cooperating victims), ICE helps break the cycle of abuse and supports recovery.

Misconceptions, Priorities, and the Risks of Elimination

Many advocate defunding or abolishing ICE based on its immigration role alone, overlooking HSI’s criminal investigative contributions. Eliminating or severely restricting the agency would create significant gaps for even more children to fall through and be lost:

  • Fewer rescued children: Loss of specialized cross-border authorities, international coordination, and task force integration would reduce victim identifications and extractions from trafficking rings.

  • Disrupted operations against networks: Traffickers, especially those targeting vulnerable minors, would face less pressure, allowing exploitation to expand.

  • Broader public safety impacts: Reduced capacity against linked crimes like drug smuggling and organized exploitation.

And make no mistake. If you are for eliminating ICE over immigration alone, you will be part of the reason children go unrescued to live their lives as sexual playthings for some of the same people you protected by eliminating ICE.

I would not want that on my conscience, let me tell ya!

This raises an important question: Are political priorities regarding the protection of certain groups from deportation being prioritized over the urgent need to rescue children from sex trafficking and forced labor? The answer appears to be yes, and supporting the elimination of ICE contributes significantly to this issue. The safety and well-being of these children—often subjected to severe trauma, violence, and long-term health impacts—should be THE primary concern. They should certainly take precedence over individuals you don't know and have no connection to who have entered the country illegally. I've included a link at the end to a site that tracks crimes committed by illegal aliens, based on news reports nationwide. You may find it enlightening, assuming you have a conscience. It's difficult to understand how anyone can support eliminating ICE if they do, when it will jeopardize countless children. But perhaps that's just my perspective, but I sure as hell hope not for those children's sake. I mean, what are we talking about here?!

ICE’s HSI component delivers essential, results-driven work rescuing children and combating human trafficking—functions that extend well beyond immigration enforcement. While reforms and accountability are always worth discussion because no one is perfect, eliminating the agency would carry clear negative consequences for the most vulnerable. A fact-based understanding of its full role is essential for informed policy decisions. For the latest data and cases, consult official sources at ice.gov and dhs.gov.

There is only one group that is truly the most vulnerable in our global society: our children. Yet, far too many people in this country seem to prioritize the interests of total strangers who have broken the law by entering here illegally over those most vulnerable children. These individuals have legal removal orders, which means they have already gone through due process; otherwise, there wouldn't be an order for their removal. Come on, everyone—this is just common sense.

You need to decide whether you are going to stand with total strangers who do not give a damn about you or if you are going to do the right thing and protect these children above all else.

I know who I stand with and for. The children, always! Where are YOU standing?

Then take a moment to consider why the media and left-leaning politicians are misleading you about ICE, trying to persuade you to dismantle the agency that safeguards these children from traffickers by keeping your focus on immigration alone. Reflect on their motives for doing so. It's not difficult to figure out, guys. In fact, I would call it damned obvious!
